PRESENTATION

If you’re looking to start your day with something really, really flavorful, this Canadian breakfast sandwich is the way to go. Imagine the crispy goodness of bacon, paired with a couple of tender fried eggs and a thick layer of melted cheddar, all tucked between slices of golden toasted bread. Really good stuff. Each bite gets a boost from a creamy avocado spread, adding freshness and smoothness. So, so tasty.

And look, this combo is both savory and rich—making it perfect for a hearty morning meal or late brunch. Some folks swap in peameal bacon for a peameal bacon sandwich twist, or go for that sweet and smoky vibe with a maple bacon breakfast sandwich. Pretty simple. There's so much room to play with this classic—try adding Oka cheese or spreading on some maple mustard for a change-up. Thing is, no matter how you make it, the layers come together in a way that feels both familiar and a bit special.

Across Canada, people love adding their own spins, like swapping the bread for a Montreal-style bagel or mixing in local cheeses. Double fried eggs keep things moist and gooey right in the center, playing off the crunchy bacon and gooey cheddar. Seriously good. Whether you're using Canadian bacon or leaning into this breakfast sandwich recipe with extra toppings, it all comes together for a breakfast that's got real staying power. A Canadian bacon sandwich goes great with coffee and makes a pretty good lunch if you’re after something filling.

Many enjoy tossing in extras like tomato slices or sautéed mushrooms for more flavor and texture. Which is great. However you build it, this sandwich gives you a big hit of comfort, a little energy boost, and loads of flavor from the first bite. It's one of those breakfast sandwich ideas that sticks around because it is just so easy to make your own, and every version seems to taste just a bit better than the last. With its versatility and deliciousness, it’s no wonder this sandwich is a favorite across the country. You know what? Can't go wrong.

How to prepare Canadian breakfast sandwich

To make the Canadian breakfast sandwich, start by toasting the bread: melt 2 tbsp of butter (about 30 g) in a nonstick skillet 1, add the slices of bread 2 and brown them over medium heat on both sides 3. Set aside.

Move on to the avocado spread: halve the avocado and scoop out the flesh 4, then transfer it to a bowl. Season with salt 5 and oil 6.

Add the lemon juice as well 7 and mash with a fork 8 to obtain a smooth consistency 9.

Heat the same skillet you used to toast the bread, place the bacon slices in it 10 and fry over medium-high heat for 2–3 minutes. Flip them with tongs and fry for another 2–3 minutes on the other side until crispy and golden 11. Remove the bacon from the pan and melt the remaining 2 tsp of butter (about 10 g) 12.

Add the eggs 13, season with salt 14 and cook over moderate heat for about 3–4 minutes. Once the eggs are ready, you can assemble the sandwich: place one slice of bread on the plate and spread the avocado spread on it 15.

Carefully transfer the fried egg 16, then add the cheddar 17 and 2 slices of bacon 18.

Cover with a second slice of bread 19 and proceed in the same way with avocado spread 20 and another 2 slices of bacon 21.

Finish with more cheddar 22 and a second fried egg 23. Close with the third slice of bread and assemble the second sandwich the same way. Your Canadian breakfast sandwich is ready to enjoy 34!
