PRESENTATION

Air fryer peppers—super tasty—bring a classic Italian touch to your meals without much fuss. And look, across Italy, folks love roasting peppers until they’re tender and juicy, really soaking up those traditional flavors like garlic, basil, and oregano. Plus, the air fryer roasted peppers method is honestly a game-changer. It cuts down the wait to just about 30 minutes. Yeah, 30 minutes! You still get those sweet, rich bites you’d expect from slow-roasting. Tossing the peppers in extra virgin olive oil before air frying really really lets the herbs and garlic stick, so every piece is just loaded with flavor.

Whether you’re using them as a starter, adding them to a sandwich, or topping bruschetta, these air fryer bell peppers keep things versatile. Pretty much. Feel free to switch up the seasonings or throw in other Italian herbs if you’re feeling adventurous. And in southern regions like Calabria or Sicily, some folks might add a sprinkle of chili flakes for a hint of heat, but really, the basics stay the same—lots of good olive oil and fresh, aromatic herbs.

What’s fantastic—like really fantastic—about air fryer peppers is how easy they are to peel once they’re moist and soft from cooking; the skins practically slide right off. And this technique works for all kinds of peppers, too. Air fryer sweet peppers or even air fryer mini peppers for snacks? For sure. For anyone looking to keep things healthy, these are a great option for quick lunches or as part of air fryer healthy snacks and air fryer side dishes. People often use leftovers in salads or on top of pizza, and you know what, they stay tender even after chilling in the fridge. And here's the thing: the air fryer cuts back on oil, making this dish lighter without losing that golden, roasted taste everyone loves in Italian food. So, with a bit of seasoning and a modern twist, you get all the tangy goodness of Italian peppers—fast, easy, and ready to go with just about anything.

How to prepare Air Fryer Peppers

To prepare the peppers with an air fryer, first wash them, dry them, and place them in the air fryer basket. Cook for 30 minutes at 392°F, turning them halfway through 2. They should be well-golden on all sides 3. After cooking, let the peppers cool inside the turned-off air fryer for about 30 minutes. This way, steam will form inside the chamber, and the peppers will peel easily.

Once cooled, remove the peppers from the basket 4 and peel off the outer skin gently with your hands 5. Remove the stem 6.

Also remove the seeds and internal filaments by scraping them with the back of a knife 7. Cut them into strips 8 and arrange them on a serving plate 9.

Season the peppers with salt 10, oregano 11, and basil leaves torn with your hands 12.

Add the peeled and sliced garlic clove 13, the oil 14, and mix. You can serve the peppers immediately 15 or store them in the refrigerator to cool.

Storage

Store the peppers in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.

If you prefer, you can also freeze the peeled, unseasoned peppers.

Tip

For preparing the peppers, we used a 7-liter air fryer. If yours is smaller, cook fewer peppers at a time.

You can cut the peppers into slices and use them to make pepper rolls.

Alternatively, once the peppers are cut into strips, place them in a small baking pan and top with: breadcrumbs, grated cheese, a handful of capers and olives, and gratinate for 8 minutes at 392°F in the air fryer.
